Ghaffar Sardabi was born in Kashan on November 7, 1943. At the age of 7 he attended the Zilou weaving workshop of Haji GholamrezaZilouchian, andlearned the mysteries of this profession in 13 years under the supervision of masters like Hassan Babahassani and MashalahSardabi. At the same time, he was working in the velvet and silk textile factories ofKashan. The Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department of Kashan hired him after his retirement in 2005 to preserve this artistic industry. During a decade work with the cultural heritage office he creatively produced various types of zilou fabrics, including three colors and four colors in different color and designs. Due to his creativity, initiative and artistic talent, he was awarded 2nd artistic grade by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Studies, as well as UNESCO's sign of authenticity. In addition to teaching students and art of zilou weaving, Sardabi has taken a major step in maintaining and preserving the industry.
